MTG Star Trek Signed Cards: All 7 Headliners Explained
The biggest story about Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek isn’t a mechanic. It’s the chase cards. For the first time, Magic has printed cards hand-signed by the actors who played the characters. This guide covers the seven signed headliner cards, how rare they are, how to find them, and the other collectible treatments in the set. Last updated: October 25, 2026.
The Signed Headliners at a Glance
- 7 different signed cards, each a textless, full-art portrait of a Star Trek character with a signature from an actor who portrayed them
- Approximately 250 copies of each, according to Wizards, or about 1,750 signed cards in total
- Collector Boosters only. Signed cards cannot appear in Play Boosters or any other product.
- Signed cards can appear in Collector Boosters of any language, but the card is always in English.
- Once printed, each card was hand-signed by the actor and then randomly inserted into Collector Boosters.
The Seven Characters
Kirk, Spock, Picard, Janeway, Seven of Nine, Geordi La Forge, and Data are reported as the seven characters, and signers have been announced for three:
- Captain James T. Kirk — signed by William Shatner
- Captain Jean-Luc Picard — signed by Patrick Stewart
- Captain Kathryn Janeway — signed by Kate Mulgrew
Spock is among the seven (Wizards’ own product page pairs Kirk and Spock as headliners), but his signer wasn’t named in the coverage we found, and Leonard Nimoy, who originated the role, died in 2015. The signers for Seven of Nine, Geordi La Forge, and Data aren’t confirmed in the sources we checked either. We’ll update this post when Wizards publishes the full signer list.
Captain Kirk — The Playable Headliner
The signed headliners are textless, but each character also has a normal playable card. Captain James T. Kirk is a red mythic legendary creature with a hellbent-style theme: he gets stronger when your hand is empty. Star Trek has a modal-spells theme, and Kirk offers three different effects to choose from.
Other Chase Treatments in the Set
Stardates cards (SDS) — 30 cards that bring powerful cards from Magic’s history together with Star Trek moments. Traditional foil Stardates cards appear only in Collector Boosters.
LCARS frame cards and shock lands — All 10 shock lands appear in the set, with LCARS-frame versions.
Classic Enterprise cards — 24 of them, a nod to Star Trek’s starships.
U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Galaxy-Class — A Spacecraft card that lets you exile cards and play them when charge counters are put on it.
Scene cards — Borderless cards whose art connects across multiple cards, available in two Scene Boxes.
How to Find the Signed Cards
Collector Boosters are the only way to open a signed headliner. Each pack has 15 cards, and a Collector Booster display has 12 packs. With about 250 copies of each of seven cards, most Collector Booster boxes will not contain one, so treat a signed pull as a jackpot, not a plan. If you’re buying for the set itself, with its Stardates cards, shock lands, and treatments, Collector Boosters are a fun way to open it. If you want a playable Star Trek deck, Play Boosters and Commander decks are more efficient.
Why Signed Cards Matter
Signed cards have been a staple of sports and non-sport trading cards for decades, but this is their Magic debut. With a hard cap of roughly 250 copies per card, these are among the rarest cards Magic has printed, and they’re likely to attract interest from Star Trek collectors who don’t otherwise play Magic.
