MTG Star Trek: Chase Cards & Autographs Revealed So Far

The biggest story out of Magic: The Gathering | Star Trek’s first reveal isn’t a mechanic — it’s the chase cards. This set introduces something Magic has never done before: cards physically autographed by the actors who played the characters. Here’s everything confirmed about the rarest cards in the set so far.

The Headliner: Autographed Cards

Seven cards in the set will feature a real, hand-signed autograph from the actor who portrayed that character — not a printed signature, an actual signature applied to each physical card. These are presented in a textless treatment, letting the art and signature stand on their own.

Print run: Wizards has confirmed “a little north of 200” copies of each autographed card — reporting puts the number at roughly 200–250 per card. Across all seven, that’s somewhere around 1,400–1,750 total copies worldwide. Not officially serialized, but functionally just as scarce.

Where to find them: Collector Boosters only. They will not appear in Play Boosters or any other product.

Confirmed So Far

Captain James T. Kirk — signed by William Shatner
A red mythic rare. Kirk plays into a hellbent-style theme, getting stronger when your hand is empty. His card is modal, offering three effects to choose from: filtering your hand, making a 1/1 token, or pumping your board.

Captain Kathryn Janeway — signed by Kate Mulgrew
A green-leaning mythic built around a self-fueling Explore engine — reveal the top card of your library, and if it’s a land, take it into your hand. Functions similarly to known landfall/exploration payoff cards, giving her real playable value beyond just being a chase card.

Who’s Still Unrevealed

Five of the seven autograph cards haven’t been shown yet. Wizards has confirmed they won’t all be Captains — some will be other major Star Trek characters. Based on the confirmed Commander deck face characters (Picard, Spock, a Klingon warrior, and a Borg) and general franchise prominence, the most commonly speculated names among outlets covering the reveal include Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard, along with actors behind Data, Worf, Quark, and Seven of Nine — though none of this is confirmed. Wizards has indicated the remaining cards will be revealed during the set’s preview window, expected in late October into early November, close to the November 13 release.

Other Notable Chase-Worthy Cards

Beyond the autograph cards, a few other reveals stand out for collectors and players alike:

USS Enterprise-D — A Spacecraft card (the mechanic returning from Edge of Eternities) bringing back the Station mechanic, letting the Enterprise anchor a fleet-building strategy.

Borg cards — Built around an assimilation mechanic that lets you take control of an opponent’s creatures — a thematically perfect and mechanically aggressive design for the Borg’s “resistance is futile” identity.

Why These Cards Matter for Collectors

Autographed sports cards have been a category for decades, but this is the first time Magic has done it. Combined with a hard print cap around 200 per card, these are shaping up to be some of the most collectible cards Magic has ever released — likely to draw crossover interest from Star Trek collectors who don’t otherwise play Magic, similar to what happened with The One Ring in the Lord of the Rings set.

If you’re planning to chase these, Collector Boosters are the only path — standard Play Boosters won’t include them.
