Star Wars Unlimited Card Rarities, Symbols & Foil Treatments — Complete Guide

You’ve ripped open some Star Wars Unlimited packs. Now what? Do you have anything valuable? Before you can answer that, you need to understand two completely separate things — rarity and foil treatment. Most new players confuse them. This guide breaks down both, covers every symbol on your cards, and explains exactly what you’re looking at when you open a pack.

Star Wars Unlimited card rarities and symbols guide — Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary, Hyperspace, Showcase, Prestige, Serialized Prestige, Starter Exclusive, Promo and Rotation Symbol explained with pull rates

Rarity vs Foil — The Most Common Confusion in SWU

Before anything else — rarity and foil are not the same thing.

Rarity tells you how often a card appears in packs. Common cards show up constantly. Legendaries show up rarely. The rarity symbol is in the bottom right corner of every card.

Foil is a physical treatment — the shimmer, the finish, the visual effect on the card’s surface. Foil is completely independent of rarity. A Common card can be foil. A Legendary can be non-foil. They are two separate layers stacked on top of each other.

Understanding this distinction is the first step to knowing what you actually have when you open a pack.

The Rarity Symbol Color Key

Every Star Wars Unlimited card has a rarity symbol in the bottom right corner. The color of that symbol tells you the rarity at a glance — but the colors are subtle and easy to confuse. Here’s what to look for on your physical cards:

  • Copper / Bronze — Common (C)
  • Silver / White — Uncommon (U)
  • Gold / Yellow — Rare (R)
  • Blue — Legendary (L)

This is verified from physical cards. Most guides online say Legendary is orange or amber — that is incorrect. The Legendary symbol is blue. Hold a Rare (gold R) and a Legendary (blue L) side by side and the difference is clear.

The Rarity Symbols — What Each One Means

C — Common

The most frequently appearing cards in every pack. Nine commons appear in every standard booster pack — guaranteed. Commons form the backbone of most decks and shouldn’t be underestimated. Some of the most competitively played cards in Star Wars Unlimited are Commons.

Symbol color: Copper / Bronze
Pull rate: 9 per pack, guaranteed, all sets.

U — Uncommon

More interesting abilities and more combo potential than Commons. Three uncommons appear in every standard pack — guaranteed. Many Uncommons see real competitive play and hold genuine value in the singles market.

Symbol color: Silver / White
Pull rate: 3 per pack, guaranteed, all sets.

R — Rare

Each standard booster pack has one slot reserved for either a Rare or a Legendary. Rares are often the backbone of competitive decks and vary enormously in value — some are worth cents, others command serious prices depending on the current meta.

Symbol color: Gold / Yellow
Pull rate: 1 per pack guaranteed (shared slot with Legendary).

L — Legendary

The marquee cards. Legendaries are the most powerful and most sought-after cards in the game — featuring iconic characters and game-changing abilities. They hold the most value for both collectors and competitive players.

Symbol color: Blue — not orange or amber as many guides incorrectly state. Verified from physical cards.
Pull rate: Approximately 1 per 8 packs. Shares the rare/legendary slot with Rare.

S — Starter Deck Exclusive

Cards marked S are only available in Starter Decks and Spotlight Decks — they cannot be pulled from booster packs. Ever. Designed for newer players with straightforward mechanics. If you want them, you need to buy the relevant deck product.

Where to find: Starter Decks and Spotlight Decks only — never in booster packs.

Hyperspace Cards — No Special Symbol

This is where most players get confused. Hyperspace cards have no dedicated symbol. You cannot identify a Hyperspace card by looking at the rarity symbol.

Instead, Hyperspace cards are identified by two things:

  1. Full-bleed borderless art — the artwork extends all the way to the edge of the card with no black border
  2. Card number above the base set count — A Lawless Time has 264 base set cards. Any card numbered above 264 from that set is a Hyperspace variant

The rarity symbol on a Hyperspace card still shows the underlying rarity in its standard color — a Hyperspace Common still has a copper C, a Hyperspace Rare still has a gold R. The Hyperspace treatment is separate from the rarity.

Pull rate: At least 1 Hyperspace foil guaranteed per pack from Set 7 (A Lawless Time) onward. Sets 1–6 had a foil slot that could be Hyperspace but was not guaranteed.

S — Showcase

Showcase variants are the chase cards of standard booster packs — featuring fully alternate art, a unique cinematic card frame, and special foil treatment. There is no non-foil Showcase version. Every Showcase card is foil.

Pull rate: Approximately 1 per 288 standard packs — 1 per 12 booster boxes. May vary by set.

P — Prestige

Prestige cards feature elevated premium artwork — some of the most visually striking cards in the game. They come in three versions: non-foil, foil, and serialized foil.

Starting with A Lawless Time (Set 7), non-foil Prestige cards can now be found in standard booster packs. Foil and serialized versions remain exclusive to Carbonite Edition packs.

Pull rate: Approximately 1 non-foil Prestige per 18 standard packs. Foil and serialized: Carbonite only. Introduced in Set 4 (Jump to Lightspeed).

Serialized Prestige — The Rarest Cards in the Game

Serialized Prestige foils are individually numbered and printed in extremely limited quantities — as low as 50 copies worldwide for the rarest versions. Each card has its serial number stamped directly on the card face. These are Carbonite Edition exclusive and will never be reprinted.

To put the value in context — a Phantom — Spectre Shuttle serialized Prestige card numbered 000/250 from A Lawless Time sells for nearly $100. The underlying card in its standard version is worth a fraction of that. Serialization drives the value entirely.

Where to find: Carbonite Edition packs only. Print runs as low as 50 worldwide.

Promo Cards

Promo cards are earned by attending sanctioned events at local game stores like Skillshotz Gaming. They cannot be pulled from booster packs — ever. Each event has its own exclusive promo card, identified by a P## set code (P28, P31, etc.).

Promos hold collector value precisely because supply is limited to event attendance. The only way to get them is to show up and play.

Where to find: Sanctioned events only. Play at Skillshotz Gaming in Deerfield Beach to earn them.

↻ A / B / C — The Rotation Symbol

Added starting with A Lawless Time (Set 7), the rotation symbol is a letter inside a circular arrow printed at the bottom center of the card. The letter indicates which rotation batch the card belongs to:

  • ↻ A — Sets released in 2025
  • ↻ B — Sets released in 2026 starting with A Lawless Time
  • No symbol — The card has already rotated out of Premier format

The rotation symbol is not a rarity. It tells you whether your card is legal in the main competitive format. Cards without a rotation symbol cannot be used in Premier-legal decks. For a full breakdown see our Star Wars Unlimited Rotation Guide.

Foil Treatments in Star Wars Unlimited

Foil is a physical treatment applied to a card’s surface — completely independent of rarity. Here’s every foil treatment currently in Star Wars Unlimited:

Standard Foil — Sets 1–6 Only (No Longer in Packs)

Standard black-bordered foil cards existed in Star Wars Unlimited from Set 1 through Set 6 (Secrets of Power). They featured a regular card border with a foil shimmer finish — the most traditional foil treatment in card gaming.

They were widely considered the least exciting pull in the game — a standard border foil Common was functionally identical to a non-foil Common just with extra shine. FFG heard that feedback clearly.

Starting with A Lawless Time (Set 7), standard foils were completely removed from both standard and Carbonite booster packs. They will not return. If you have a standard foil from Sets 1–6 it’s a collectible piece of the game’s early history — but you won’t be pulling any new ones.

Hyperspace Foil — Also Guaranteed Every Pack (Set 7+)

Hyperspace Foil is a distinct variant from a standard Hyperspace card — and as of A Lawless Time it’s also guaranteed in every pack.

Here’s the difference:

Hyperspace — a card with the borderless full-bleed art treatment. No foil shimmer. Just the extended art frame.

Hyperspace Foil — the same borderless full-bleed art treatment, but also with a foil shimmer finish on top. Two treatments combined into one card.

Every standard booster pack from Set 7 onward contains at minimum:

  • 1 Hyperspace card (non-foil)
  • 1 Hyperspace Foil card

These are two separate guaranteed slots. You can also pull more than one of each — one is just the floor, not the ceiling.

Prior to A Lawless Time (Sets 1–6), neither was guaranteed. The foil slot at the back of the pack could produce a Hyperspace Foil but it was random — you could just as easily get a standard black-bordered foil Common, which was widely considered the most disappointing pull in the game. That’s exactly why FFG removed standard foils entirely starting with Set 7.

Pull rate: 1 guaranteed per pack from Set 7 onward. You can pull additional Hyperspace Foils beyond the guaranteed one.

Showcase Foil — Ultra Rare

Showcase cards always come in foil — there is no non-foil Showcase version. The foil treatment on Showcase cards is premium and more elaborate than a standard Hyperspace foil. At approximately 1 per 12 boxes from standard packs, pulling one is a genuine event.

Prestige Non-Foil — Standard Packs (Set 7+)

Non-foil Prestige cards were introduced to standard booster packs starting with A Lawless Time. Approximately 1 in every 18 standard packs contains a non-foil Prestige variant.

Prestige Foil — Carbonite Only

The foil version of Prestige cards. Every Carbonite Edition pack is guaranteed to contain one Prestige card — which may be foil or non-foil. Foil Prestige cards are exclusively available through Carbonite packs.

Serialized Prestige Foil — The Rarest Treatment

Individually numbered. Print runs as low as 50 copies worldwide. Carbonite Edition exclusive. Never reprinted. Opening one is a moment.
