One Piece TCG Buyer’s Guide: What to Buy in 2026

The One Piece Card Game has exploded. What started as a niche hobby has transitioned into a dominant global TCG, and in 2026 the market is more active than ever. Whether you’re a competitive player looking to build a tournament deck, a collector chasing high-value chase cards, or someone who just discovered the game and doesn’t know where to start — this guide tells you exactly what to buy and why.

Who This Guide Is For

One Piece TCG buyers break into three clear groups and each one should be spending their money differently:

The Player — You want to build a competitive deck and win matches. You care about which cards are legal in Standard format and which leaders are performing well in the current meta. You should be buying singles, not cracking packs.

The Collector — You want cards that hold or grow in value. You care about Manga Rares, alternate art variants, and sealed product. You should be buying specific chase cards and sealed boxes from high-value sets.

The Opener — You love the experience of cracking packs, seeing what you pull, and building a collection over time. You should be buying booster boxes from current sets where pack contents are the most exciting.

Most buyers are some combination of all three. This guide covers all of them.

Understanding One Piece TCG Product Types

Before you spend anything, know what you’re buying.

Booster Packs

Single packs containing 12 cards. Each pack includes a mix of Commons, Uncommons, Rares, Super Rares, and a chance at Secret Rares and Manga Rare alternate art cards. Buying individual packs is the least efficient way to build a collection but works well for casual opening or trying a new set.

Booster Boxes

A full box contains 24 packs — 288 cards total. Boxes are the standard buying unit for serious collectors and players. Opening packs provides entertainment value and discovery excitement but delivers poor expected value — average box opening returns 60–70% of purchase price in singles value. If you’re building a specific deck, buying singles is smarter. If you’re collecting a full set or enjoying the opening experience, boxes make sense.

Starter Decks

Pre-built 51-card decks designed to be playable out of the box. Every set releases starter decks alongside the main booster set. They’re the best entry point for new players and often contain exclusive cards not available in booster packs. If you’re just starting out, a starter deck is your first purchase.

Special Sets and Extra Boosters

Bandai releases premium products alongside main sets — Illustration Boxes, Double Packs, and Extra Boosters like the upcoming EB-03 Heroines Edition. Extra Boosters focus on tight, curated card pools — a great pick if you enjoy targeted collecting, and packs that feel hit-heavy compared to sprawling main sets.

The Current Standard Format

As of June 2026, the Standard format window is OP-09 through OP-16. Previous sets are not legal in official tournaments but maintain collector and casual value.

If you’re building for competitive play, every card you buy should come from OP-09 onward. If you’re collecting for value, older sets — especially OP-01 — are where the highest-value cards live.

All One Piece TCG Sets: OP-01 Through OP-16

One Piece TCG has 16 main booster sets as of June 2026. Here’s the full timeline with collector and player notes for each:

OP-01 — Romance Dawn (EN: August 2022)
The first set. OP-01’s collector value is the highest of any set because of low original print runs and the emotional significance of the first set in any TCG. Manga Rare Luffy from OP-01 is the most expensive widely-traded One Piece TCG card in 2026. Not Standard-legal but a strong long-term hold for collectors.

OP-02 — Paramount War (EN: December 2022)
Whitebeard, Ace, and the Battle of Marineford era. Strong collector appeal due to the iconic arc. Not Standard-legal.

OP-03 — Pillars of Strength (EN: March 2023)
Introduced key mechanics and fan-favorite characters. Not Standard-legal.

OP-04 — Kingdoms of Intrigue (EN: June 2023)
Popular arc coverage with a strong character roster. Not Standard-legal.

OP-05 — Awakening of the New Era (EN: September 2023)
Not Standard-legal.

OP-06 — Wings of the Captain (EN: December 2023)
Not Standard-legal.

OP-07 — 500 Years in the Future (EN: April 2024)
Egghead arc, Dr. Vegapunk, and Monkey D. Dragon’s leader debut. Not Standard-legal.

OP-08 — Two Legends (EN: July 2024)
Not Standard-legal.

OP-09 — The Emperors of the Sea (EN: October 2024)
First set in the current Standard window. Still competitive and worth picking up singles from if you’re building certain archetypes.

OP-10 — Royal Blood (EN: January 2025)
Standard-legal. Strong set with competitive staples across multiple colors.

OP-11 — Emperors in the New World (EN: April 2025)
Standard-legal.

OP-12 — Side Characters (EN: July 2025)
Standard-legal. Popular with collectors for the character variety.

OP-13 — The Three Captains (EN: October 2025)
Standard-legal. Portgas D. Ace (OP-13-119) hit $4,900 in December 2025 — the Manga Rare from this set is one of the most coveted cards in the game right now.

OP-14 — Azure Sea Seven / Skypiea (EN: April 2026)
Standard-legal. Part of the 2026 release wave.

OP-15 — Adventure on Kami’s Island (EN: April 3, 2026)
Standard-legal. Part of the 2026 release wave.

OP-16 — The Time of Battle (EN: June 12, 2026)
The sixteenth main expansion focused on the iconic conflict of Paramount War. Six new leaders with strong synergy pieces for exciting decks. The special parallel rares Ms. All Sunday and Portgas D. Ace are among the best pulls. Just released — the current hot set. Three leaders have developed into competitive archetypes immediately: Akainu (Tier 0), Marco (Tier 1), and Garp (Tier 2–3). OP-16 is the current competitive environment.

Coming Soon — OP-17 and Beyond

Mark your calendars for August 28 — that’s the release date for The World’s Strongest Warriors, set on Elbaph, the world of giants. The Live Action Edition cards return in November 2026. EB-03 Heroines Edition is an Extra Booster coming later in 2026 — focused on a tight curated card pool with hit-heavy packs compared to mainline sets.

What to Buy Based on Your Goals

If You Want to Play Competitively

Buy singles. Do not crack packs to build a competitive deck — the math doesn’t work in your favor. Identify the leader you want to play, look up a current tier list on OPMetaGame or OnePiece.gg, and buy the specific cards you need as singles.

OP-16 is the current competitive environment. Akainu is the dominant Tier 0 leader right now. If you want to play the best deck in the format, research Akainu lists and buy the key pieces as singles. Browse available One Piece TCG singles at the Skillshotz Gaming shop.

If You Want to Collect for Value

Alternative art and Manga Rare variants hold 80–90% of the value in premium One Piece cards. Focus your budget there. The highest-value cards to pursue in 2026:

OP-01 Manga Rare Luffy — The most iconic card in the game. Manga Rare Luffy from OP-01 is the most expensive widely-traded One Piece TCG card in 2026. Long-term hold with strong appreciation trajectory.

OP-13 Manga Rare Ace — Portgas D. Ace (OP-13-119) hit $4,900 in December 2025. One of the most emotionally significant characters in the entire series paired with one of the lowest pull rates in the game.

OP-09 Manga Rare Gol D. Roger — Gol D. Roger (OP09-118) sells for approximately $3,000 raw. The man who started it all. Strong collector demand regardless of Standard legality.

OP-01 appreciation continues to climb as the player base grows and early supply dries up — a long-term trend that shows no signs of reversing. Historical data suggests sealed product prices often dip 2–4 weeks after release before stabilizing — so if you’re not in a rush, waiting a month after launch often gets you a better price on boxes.

If You Want to Open Packs

Buy booster boxes from current sets. OP-16 is the freshest set with the most exciting pack experience right now. For the opening experience, Extra Boosters like the upcoming EB-03 Heroines Edition are excellent — tighter card pools mean more of what you want and fewer bulk commons filling out your pulls.

If You’re Brand New to the Game

Start with a Starter Deck. Pick a character or crew you love from the anime or manga and find the starter deck that features them. You’ll have a playable 51-card deck immediately. From there grab a booster box from the current set and supplement your starter with pulls. Our One Piece TCG beginner’s guide is coming soon — check back for the full walkthrough on how the game works.

Understanding Rarity in One Piece TCG

Every card has a rarity level indicated by a symbol on the card:

C — Common — The most plentiful cards. Foundational to most decks.

U — Uncommon — More powerful than Commons. Several Uncommons are competitive staples.

R — Rare — Strong cards with meaningful abilities. Many competitive decks run Rares as key pieces.

SR — Super Rare — High-impact cards. Sought after by players and collectors.

SEC — Secret Rare — The premium pull in standard sets. Alternate art, unique frames, and powerful effects. Pull rates are low — roughly 1 per box or worse depending on the set.

L — Leader — Every deck runs exactly one Leader card. Leaders define your deck’s color identity and strategy.

SP — Special Card — Exclusive to starter decks and special products. Not available in booster packs.

Manga Rare — The rarest and most valuable card type in the game. One Piece TCG Manga Rare pull rates remain remarkably low. These feature iconic manga panel artwork and command the highest prices of any card type. One per case at best — sometimes rarer.

Should You Buy English or Japanese Cards?

Japanese versions of many cards trade at different prices than their English counterparts. Japanese cards often release first and can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the specific card and regional demand.

For competitive play in the US, English cards are standard at official events. For collecting high-value cards, Japanese versions of Manga Rares are often the preferred version among serious collectors and sometimes carry a premium depending on supply.

If you’re new to the game, start with English. As you learn which specific cards you want, research whether the Japanese version is worth pursuing for your goals.

Where to Track Prices

Before buying any significant singles or sealed product, check current market prices:
