Star Wars Unlimited: Legends of the Force

Star Wars Unlimited: Legends of the Force – Set 5 Preview, Mechanics, and Release Info

The Force is calling—and Star Wars Unlimited is answering with its most mystical, lore-rich set yet: Legends of the Force, the fifth expansion in this fast-growing trading card game. With a scheduled release date of July 11, 2025, and prerelease events kicking off the weekend prior, Legends of the Force is set to shift the meta and deepen the connection between gameplay and the galaxy’s most iconic Force-users.

Whether you’re a veteran of Star Wars Unlimited or jumping in to build your first deck, here’s everything you need to know.

What Is Legends of the Force?

Legends of the Force is the fifth official set in the Star Wars Unlimited TCG by Fantasy Flight Games. This expansion focuses entirely on the Force—bringing Jedi, Sith, and Force-sensitive beings to the forefront with powerful new leaders, units, and mechanics.

Expect appearances from:

  • Qui-Gon Jinn
  • Darth Maul
  • Rey
  • Yoda
  • Darth Vader
  • Kanan Jarrus
  • And many more characters across multiple eras of Star Wars lore

Unlike previous sets, this one taps directly into the mysticism and duality of the Force, offering new ways to play—and win.

New Mechanics Introduced

Legends of the Force adds two major gameplay mechanics that reflect the eternal struggle between light and dark:

Force Tokens

A brand-new resource type tied to specific Force Bases. You’ll generate Force tokens during play and spend them to activate special abilities, enhance cards, or sway the momentum of the match. Some cards become significantly more powerful when you have a certain number of Force tokens in play.

Hidden Keyword

This new keyword prevents a unit from being attacked the turn it enters play—unless it has the Sentinel keyword. Hidden units create unpredictable tempo shifts and let you build board presence safely before striking.

Powerful New Leaders

Expect powerful new Leader Cards to become cornerstones of competitive play. Each Leader is themed around the Force and offers unique synergy with the new mechanics:

  • Qui-Gon Jinn: Balances calm and aggression, using Force tokens with precision.
  • Darth Maul: A ferocious, aggressive unit who thrives on sudden strikes and momentum.
  • Rey: Offers light-side resilience and synergy with defensive Force-based tactics.
  • Vader and Yoda return in variants that align with the growing focus on mystical mastery.

What’s in the Legends of the Force Product Line?

At launch (July 11, 2025), players will have access to a full range of product options:

  • Booster Packs: Random assortments of cards, including common, uncommon, rare, legendary, and alternate art variants.
  • Booster Boxes: 24 booster packs per box.
  • Carbonite Edition Boosters: Premium versions that contain guaranteed foil and Hyperspace cards—great for collectors.
  • Spotlight Decks: Preconstructed 50-card decks themed around characters like Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul—perfect for casual play or a jumping-off point for deckbuilding.
  • Prerelease Kits: Featuring 6 booster packs and entry materials for early events. Prereleases begin July 5 & July 9, 2025 at local game stores.

Strategy Shifts to Expect

With the introduction of Force tokens and Hidden units, expect to see:

  • More tempo-based decks that play defensively early and explode with combos later
  • Decks focused on resource scaling via Force tokens, instead of just units and events
  • Strategic plays using the Hidden mechanic to control tempo and bait out attacks
  • More spotlight on Force-user synergy, meaning decks will build around Leaders more than ever before

Art, Rarity & Collector Appeal

Legends of the Force also continues the tradition of breathtaking card treatments:

  • Showcase Art, Full-Art Hyperspace Variants, and Foil Etched Cards
  • Scenes from famous moments like Maul’s duel with Obi-Wan, Rey’s Force training, and Yoda’s teachings
  • Estimated 260–267 cards total, offering tons of new possibilities for deck variety
